A K-9 handler responding to a call approached a home where a dog described as a Pit Bull (but is in fact an American Bulldog) attacked the officer's dog. Obviously the natural response was to pull out a gun in a neighborhood and shoot the Bulldog multiple times. The dog lay wounded and died.

Fort Mill Police ThinK With Guns, Not Brains
Date: July, 2011
Location: Fort Mill, South Carolina
Link to article
A dog described as an American Bulldog or Pit Bull was running loose. The dog got in a fight with another chained dog and menaced people. Police arrived and the dog entered a yard. Instead of blocking the hole in which the dog entered to, you know, confine the dog, police apparently milled around.
When the dog got back out of the hole and charged the officers, he was shot and killed.

January 2011: Eugene Police Shoot Dog On Property
January, 2011 - Eugene, Oregon
An American Bulldog was shot and killed when he charged at a Eugene police officer. The dog had somehow gotten out of his home but was on his front yard when the shooting occurred.
One witness claims the detective already had a gun drawn, as opposed to drawing a gun when the dog charged.

November 2010: UK Officers Kill Aggressive Dog
United Kingdom
A woman was walking a friend's American Bulldog when at some point, the dog began attacking her, causing significant wounds. While paramedics stabilized the woman, the dog was let loose, dragging his leash in a busy area. Officers arrived and tasered him, and he died en route to a shelter where he was going to be "put down".

October 2010: Roanoke Animal Control Officer Kills Loose Dog
Two dogs described as friendly by neighbors and friends got out of their yard and were running loose.
Animal control was called and the officer began chasing the dogs in his truck. When he got out of the truck, the dogs approached. For some unknown reason, the officer squatted down and spread his arms out. The dogs ran up to him and nipped him (no bite wounds were reported). When the dogs backed off, one charged again, and the animal control officer shot and killed him. The other dog is alive and unharmed.

North Belle Vernon, PA
NORTH BELLE VERNON, Pa. -- John Gida was walking his two Malteses on Arch Street in North Belle Vernon Friday morning when a neighbor's bulldog attacked, biting Gida and one of his dogs.Gida's wife, Kim, heard the commotion and raced outside to help, but was unsuccessful.A worker at a nearby garage tried to fend the bulldog off with a 2x4, but when that didn't work, a police officer was forced to shoot and kill the bulldog."The dog would not stop. It kept on pounding on me and pounding on me. I thought, 'I'm going to die' because it would not stop," said Kim Gida. One of the Gidas' dogs suffered 14 puncture wounds and remains in intensive care at an animal hospital.John Gida was also hospitalized. The bulldog's owner told Channel 4 Action News that he feels badly about what happened, but felt the dog should have been put down properly and not shot on the street. The dog's owner added that he was on a dialysis machine at the time and could not get outside fast enough when the bull dog broke free from its collar while tied on the porch.

Macon police shoot loose dog
Someone calls police who arrive and start talking to the caller. Randomly, the woman turns around and is running while being chased by a dog. I don't really get that - if you're standing with two police officers and a dog approaches, why do you immediately run away? That's asking to be chased. Anyway, she gets chased by the dog and then the dog runs away into a house. The dog comes back out of the house and approaches officers.
The dog was yelled at and stopped but then lunged at one of the officers who shot it. The dog ran back to his home but kept coming back out and lunging at pedestrians. At one point the dog and another dog attacked a man in an alley. When police arrived at the scene, the shot dog lunged again and was shot fatally in the head. The other dog was confiscated.
