Two dogs got out of a yard. They are described as Pit Bulls. A woman called police after the two loose dogs killed her loose cat (double standard for the fail). Police arrived and claim the male dog "charged" at them, obviously requiring a bullet to the head. The female dog was not shot but for some odd reason, the family was conned into giving up the dog by authorities.

Syracuse Police Kill a Cornered Dog
A dog described as a Pit Bull was fatally shot after police cornered the dog and he, you know, growled at them.
The officers had been responding to a call and knocked on a door. Police claim they asked the homeowners to control the dog; the homeowner's claim police did not give them any time to do so. The dog got out onto the porch and was barking. SO obviously the police had to shoot him!
In 2009, Syracuse police shot at least one dog when they were responding to a tripped burglary alarm.

Oakridge Tase, Then Shoot to Death Dog in Oregon
Oakridge, Oregon
There is lots of blame going around in a shooting death of a woman's dog, described as a Pit Bull.
The woman has a problem properly confining her dogs and this dog had gotten out before. The week prior, officers had responded to a call of the loose dog, and had to taser the dog.
When officers responded a week later to the dog running around (not eating anyone but acting aggressively), they arrived on scene and immediately tasered the dog. Even though the dog was immobilized and no longer a threat, officers shot the dog, killing him. Even the neighbors who didn't really like the woman or dog thought it was an extreme response to a prone, non-threatening dog.

Bridgeton Police Shoot Dog in Foot
Bridgeton, New Jersey
May, 2011
Breed:Described as a Pit Bull
The burglary of people’s possessions seems to take backseat in order to report on a dog getting shot for not doing anything but “lunging” so viciously, he didn’t hurt anyone. The officer shot the dog in the foot, but the dog will be fine.

Asheville Campus Police Acts a Hero, Shoots a Dog in the Face
April, 2011 - Asheville, North Carolina
A dog described as a Pit Bull (ZOMG! RUN FOR THE HILLS) jumped out of the back of a truck where he was just chilling. Yo, dog guardian, don't be a jack ass and leave your dog untethered and unattended in the back of your truck. Problem solved.
But instead problem emerged. The dog chased some people and eventually did bite one person in the hand.
In an act of BRAVERY so amazing, an award will be made in his honor, a campussecurity police officer lured the dog away undoubtedly by waving his arm in front of the dog as bait! When the dog meandered over, the officer had to defend himself from the walking brute by shooting the dog right in the face!
The dog will live, because he is a Pit Bull and as all creepy anti-pit bull zealots tell us, they are a speshul breed!

January 2011: Hallandale Police Officer Shoots Dog
January 2011, Hallandale - Florida
While feeding his dog, described as a Pit Bull, a man heard a commotion. The dog trotted off in the direction of the sound and as he rounded the corner, encountered several officers responding to a separate call.
One of the officers freaked out and shot the dog multiple times. According to the owner, the dog was shot will running back towards his property.
Officers refused to allow the family to take the dog to a veterinarian for two hours. If that was a human being, lawsuit time! But dogs are only our friends, apparently, not worthy of any meaningful legal protection like not having to sit in a cage for two hours before being treated for potentially unnecessary bullet holes.
The dog is expected to survive.

January 2011: Donora Police Shoot Dog, Miss Killing Him
January, 2011 - Donora, Pennsylvania
A man had left his dog, described as a Pit Bull, unattended in his home. At some point, the dog got out of the screen door and growled at people. He did not bite anyone.
Police were called. The dog had gone back into the home, but attempts to close the screen door properly failed, and the dog got out again.
The dog, now agitated, began barking and approaching the officer.
He shot the dog in the chest and made an attempt to "put him out of his misery" by shooting him again. Thankfully, he missed, and the owner arrived to take the dog to a vet where he is expected to survive.
