Aliquippa, Pennsylvania
Coy-dog crosses are not common. For whatever reason, folks in Aliquippa think they are. There were two sightings of not one, but TWO alleged coy-dogs. These were most likely dogs.
In one case, a woman called to say a coyote, actually described as an Akita mix, was chasing and trying to bite her.
Police arrived. They stated the dog wasn't lunging. It was not trying to bite anyone. For all intents and purposes, it was not acting dangerous. But they shot the dog anyways, calling it a "euthanasia".

Hartlepool police call vet to euthanize dangerous dog
A man was left with significant injuries after his dog mauled his arms. Police were called and found the dog to be highly aggressive. They were given consent by the owner to euthanize the dog. The dog was cornered in a backyard and, who knows how, but a vet was called out and euthanized the dog via euthanol/euthanasia solution.

UK police shoot and kill dog
A dog owner was playing with his dog at the beach. At some point, the dog became agitated and began attacking a teenage male. When the owner and another passerby tried to stop the dog, the dog began bit them as well (though not as severely as the teenager). Police were called and when they were unable to subdue the dog, they shot him several times, killing him.

Officer cleared in death of dog he shot 13 times
In mid-April, a police officer shot a 42-lb, 7-mos old dog 13 times when the dog ran up from the basement after a fleeing suspect ran down into the basement. The suspect, by the way, was not related to the owners of the house but did know the owner's son.
Unsurprisingly, the officer has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

Dog shot 13 times for coming up the stairs
Youngstown, Ohio police shot a 42-lb dog 13, yes THIRTEEN, times while in pursuit of a juvenile suspect. The dog was in the basement when one of the suspects (the son of the residents but not living at the home at the time) ran down into the basement. Three officers pursued the juvenile and, when they opened the door, the 7-mos-old puppy came up the stairs.
While the dog was prostrate on the ground, he pumped another 5 bullets into the dog. And finally, he placed the gun inches from the top of the wounded, dying dog's head and blew her brains out.
